However, some people may struggle to produce sufficient amounts.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While prescription drugs are commonly used to boost\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">breastmilk<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">production<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, research suggests that fenugreek may be a safe, natural alternative. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One older, 14-day study in 78 new mothers found that drinking herbal tea with fenugreek seeds increased breast milk production, which helped babies gain more weight (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4585338\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another 2011 study split 66 mothers into three groups. One received fenugreek tea, the second received a placebo, and the third received nothing (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21261516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The volume of pumped breast milk increased from around 1.15 ounces (oz), or 34 milliliters (mL) in the control and placebo groups to 2.47 oz (73 mL) in the fenugreek group (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21261516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These studies used fenugreek herbal tea instead of supplements, but\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supplements<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0are likely to have similar effects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though this research is encouraging, you should discuss any concerns about breastmilk production with a healthcare professional.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Effects on Testosterone Levels In Men<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the most common reasons men use fenugreek supplements is to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">boost testosterone. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some studies have found that it has\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">beneficial effects, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including an increased libido. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In one study, taking 300 milligrams (mg) of fenugreek twice daily for 8 weeks led to significant increases in testosterone levels in men when combined with resistance training (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6191980\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants also experienced a reduction in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">body fat\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">compared to a control group, without any decrease in muscle strength (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6191980\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In another older 6-week study, 30 males took a supplement with 600 mg of fenugreek extract \u2014 along with magnesium, zinc, and vitamin B6 \u2014 to assess changes in sexual function and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">libido<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Most participants reported increased strength and improved sexual function (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21312304\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, more research is needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>May Help Control Diabetes And Blood Sugar Levels<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fenugreek may aid metabolic conditions, such as\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">diabetes<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4591578\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In one study, people with type 2 diabetes who took 5 g of fenugreek seed powder twice daily for 2 months experienced a reduction in fasting blood sugar levels, belly fat, body mass index, and hemoglobin A1c, a marker of long-term blood sugar control (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8344183\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">high fiber<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0content found in fenugreek powder or seeds could also be beneficial for supporting blood sugar control, even in people without diabetes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, one study found that replacing 10% of the refined wheat flour in buns and flatbreads with fenugreek powder significantly reduced blood sugar levels after eating in people without diabetes (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/26358163\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Other Health Benefits of Fenugreek<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fenugreek has been used to treat a variety of conditions. However, many of these uses have not been studied well enough to reach strong conclusions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preliminary research suggests that fenugreek may aid:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Appetite control:\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some studies show a reduction in fat intake and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">appetite<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
