It may also be beneficial for heart health, brain function, and eye health, along with several other conditions.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ginkgo biloba, or maidenhair, is a tree native to China that has been grown for thousands of years for a variety of uses. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because it\u2019s the only surviving member of an ancient order of plants, it\u2019s sometimes referred to as a living fossil. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While its leaves and seeds are often used in traditional Chinese medicine, modern research primarily focuses on ginkgo extract, which is made from the leaves. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ginkgo supplements are associated with several health claims and uses, most of which focus on brain function and blood circulation. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are benefits of ginkgo biloba.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Contains Powerful Antioxidants<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ginkgo\u2019s antioxidant content may be the reason behind many of its health claims (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32349345\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5758353\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ginkgo contains high levels of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">flavonoids<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and terpenoids, which are compounds known for their strong antioxidant effects (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8901348\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antioxidants<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0combat or neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31960481\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Free radicals are highly reactive particles that are produced in the body during normal metabolic functions, such as converting food to energy or detoxification (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31960481\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, they also have the potential to damage healthy tissues, contributing to accelerated aging and disease development (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31960481\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research on ginkgo\u2019s antioxidant effects is promising. However, it remains unclear exactly how it works and how effective it may be at treating specific diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Can Help Reduce Inflammation<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inflammation is part of the body\u2019s natural response to injury or invasion by a foreign substance. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the inflammatory response, various components of the immune system are recruited to fight against the foreign invader or heal the injured area. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some chronic diseases trigger an\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inflammatory response<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0even when there is no illness or injury present. Over time, this excessive inflammation can cause permanent damage to the body\u2019s tissues and DNA (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7147972\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Years of animal and test-tube research shows that ginkgo extract can reduce markers of inflammation in both human and animal cells in a variety of disease states (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5758353\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/28918573\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30945705\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some specific conditions in which ginkgo extract has shown to reduce inflammation include (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6373469\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7299225\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC9387049\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">):<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arthritis<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cancer<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heart disease<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stroke<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While this data is encouraging, human studies are needed before drawing concrete conclusions about ginkgo\u2019s role in treating these complex diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Improves Circulation and Heart Health<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In traditional Chinese medicine, ginkgo seeds were used to open \u201cchannels\u201d of energy to different organ systems, including the kidneys, liver, brain, and lungs. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ginkgo\u2019s apparent ability to increase blood flow to various parts of the body may be the origin of many of its supposed benefits. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One older study in people with heart disease who supplemented with ginkgo revealed an immediate increase in blood flow to multiple parts of the body. This was attributed to a 12% increase in levels of circulating\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nitric oxide<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a compound responsible for dilating blood vessels (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/18446847\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">11<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similarly, another 2008 study showed the same effect in older adults who were treated with ginkgo extract (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/18258419\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additional research also points to ginkgo\u2019s protective effects on heart health, brain health, and stroke prevention. There are multiple potential explanations for this, one of which may be the anti-inflammatory compounds present in the plant (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/28333443\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">13<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/26059355\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4640423\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More research is needed to fully understand how ginkgo affects circulation and heart and brain health.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Reduces Symptoms of Psychiatric Disorders and Dementia<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ginkgo has been repeatedly evaluated for its ability to reduce anxiety, stress, and other symptoms associated with Alzheimer\u2019s disease and cognitive decline linked to aging.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, research results are inconsistent in this area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some studies show a marked reduction in the rate of cognitive decline in people with dementia using ginkgo, but others fail to replicate this result. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, one review of 21 studies revealed that when used in conjunction with conventional medicine, ginkgo extract may increase functional capabilities in those with mild Alzheimer\u2019s (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/26268332\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">16<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another review evaluated four studies and found a significant reduction in a spectrum of symptoms associated with dementia when ginkgo was used for 22\u201324 weeks (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/28931444\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">17<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These positive results could be related to the role that ginkgo may play in improving blood flow to the brain, especially as it relates to vascular types of dementia. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, it\u2019s too soon to definitively state or refute ginkgo\u2019s role in treating dementia, but recent research is beginning to make this piece clearer.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Improves Brain Function And Well-being<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is some speculation that ginkgo may enhance brain function in healthy individuals.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A handful of small, older studies support the notion that supplementing with ginkgo may increase mental performance and perceived well-being (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/12404671\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">18<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/14602503\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">19<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Results from studies like these have given rise to claims linking ginkgo to improved memory, focus, and attention span. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, a 2012 review of research on this relationship concluded that supplementing with ginkgo did not result in any measurable improvements in memory, executive function, or attention capacity (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/hup.2259\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">20<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While supplementing with ginkgo may improve mental capability, more studies are needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Can Reduce Anxiety<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some research indicates that supplementing with ginkgo may reduce symptoms of anxiety.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A handful of animal studies have observed reductions in anxiety symptoms that may be attributed to the antioxidant content of ginkgo (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/29168225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">21<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/25642989\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">22<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In one 2007 study, 170 people with generalized anxiety were treated with either 240 milligrams (mg) of ginkgo, 480 mg of ginkgo, or a placebo. The group treated with the highest dose of ginkgo reported a 45% greater reduction in symptoms of anxiety, compared to the placebo group (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/16808927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">23<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While supplementing with ginkgo may reduce anxiety, it\u2019s still too early to draw any definitive conclusions from the available research.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Can Treat Depression<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A review of animal studies suggests that supplementing with ginkgo may help treat symptoms of depression (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/25642989\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">22<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One human study in 136 older adults also found that ginkgo biloba extract could improve symptoms of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/nutrition\/herbs-supplements-for-depression\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">depression<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and reduce levels of S100B, a marker of brain injury, when paired with an antidepressant (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30278520\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">24<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another study showed that older adults with post-stroke depression who took ginkgo biloba extract alongside an antidepressant for 8 weeks experienced significant reductions in symptoms of depression compared to taking an antidepressant alone (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6731991\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">25<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nonetheless, depression is a complex condition that may have a variety of root causes. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More research is needed to better understand the relationship between ginkgo and how it may affect depression in the general population.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Can Support Vision and Eye Health<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Very little research has investigated how ginkgo relates to vision and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eye health<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, early results are promising. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One review showed that people with glaucoma who supplemented with ginkgo experienced increased blood flow to the eye, but this didn\u2019t necessarily translate to better vision (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/29206653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">26<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another 2013 review of two studies evaluated the effect of ginkgo extract on the progression of age-related macular degeneration. Some participants reported an improvement in vision, but this wasn\u2019t statistically significant across the board (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/23440785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">27<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of these positive results seem to be related to increased blood flow to the eye. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s unclear if ginkgo would improve vision in those who don\u2019t already have vision impairment. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More research is needed to determine whether ginkgo can increase vision capacity or slow the progression of degenerative eye disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Can Treat Headaches and Migraines<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In traditional Chinese medicine, ginkgo is a very popular\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">treatment for headaches<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and migraines (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/24389028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">28<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Very little research is available on ginkgo\u2019s ability to treat headaches. However, depending on the root cause of the headache, it may help. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, it\u2019s well known that ginkgo has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. If a headache or migraine is caused by excessive stress, ginkgo may be useful (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8901348\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, if a headache is related to reduced blood flow or constricted blood vessels, ginkgo\u2019s ability to dilate blood vessels may improve symptoms (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4640423\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the contrary, some migraines are caused by the excessive dilation of blood vessels. In this situation, ginkgo may have little to no effect (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fncel.2018.00233\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">29<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep in mind that these examples are just inferences and don\u2019t substitute hard evidence. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to try ginkgo for your migraines, it\u2019s unlikely that it will cause much harm. Just be aware that it may not necessarily help.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Can Improve Asthma and COPD Symptoms<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some research indicates that ginkgo may improve symptoms of asthma and other inflammatory respiratory diseases like COPD.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is attributed to the anti-inflammatory compounds in ginkgo, which may allow for reduced inflammation of the airways and increased lung capacity (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30945705\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One older study in 75 people evaluated the use of ginkgo extract alongside glucocorticosteroid medication therapy for managing asthma symptoms (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/17828490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">30<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The levels of inflammatory compounds in the saliva of those who received ginkgo were significantly lower than those who received traditional medication alone (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/17828490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">30<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another 2013 study in 100 people evaluated the use of a mixture of Chinese herbs, which included ginkgo, for treating COPD symptoms (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3698174\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">31<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those who used the herbal formula reported a considerable reduction in cough and bronchitis at a 3-month follow-up, compared to the control group (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3698174\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">31<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this point, it cannot be determined if this improvement can be attributed to ginkgo alone, or if it was a synergistic effect of the other herbs used in the treatment group formula.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Reduces PMS Symptoms<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preliminary research indicates that ginkgo may help treat both the physical and psychological symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One older study in 85 college students revealed a 23% reduction in reported PMS symptoms when consuming ginkgo (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/19678774\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">32<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interestingly, the placebo group in this study also experienced a slight reduction in PMS symptoms, though it was much lower, at around 8.8% (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/19678774\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">32<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b> Treats Sexual Dysfunction<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some sources indicate that ginkgo may treat issues related to sexual dysfunction, such as erectile dysfunction or low libido.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ginkgo has the ability to improve blood levels of nitric oxide, which improves circulation via the dilation of blood vessels (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/18446847\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">11<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result, ginkgo may also be useful for treating various symptoms of sexual dysfunction by improving blood flow to those areas of the body. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some research has investigated using ginkgo to treat sexual dysfunction caused by the use of antidepressant drugs (SSRIs).
